Refrigerator Repair Warranty — Parts Covered, Labour Isn't

A refrigerator repair warranty can mean three different things: the brand's parts cover, the individual pro's workmanship terms, or a home warranty contract. Each layer covers different costs, and none covers everything. This page separates the three for Burleson homeowners, with the questions to ask before work starts. Call (817) 803-8995 when you are ready to check your own fridge.

Why Does Parts Covered Still Leave a Bill?

Most warranty confusion comes from one gap. The part is covered. The work to fit it is not.

Brand warranties are written that way. A covered compressor still needs a pro to remove the old unit, fit the new one and handle refrigerant. That labour is billable.

Three separate layers can apply to one repair. A brand may cover the part. The pro may cover the workmanship. A home warranty contract may cover the visit itself.

Each layer has its own terms, its own clock and its own paperwork. Keep them separate in your head, and the quotes start making sense.

One repair can touch all three layers at once. The brand covers the part. The pro covers the fitting work. A contract, if you hold one, may cover the claim itself. Each layer is claimed separately.

What Does the LG 10-Year Warranty Really Cover?

LG is the clearest worked example in Burleson kitchens. Many LG models carry a 10-year warranty on the linear compressor. It is parts only.

That means the compressor itself may cost you nothing. The labour to fit it does not come free. Sealed-system labour is skilled work, and it stays on your invoice.

The check is a serial check. The pro or the brand confirms coverage from the model and serial numbers on the sticker inside the fridge.

Never accept a full-price compressor quote before that check. Our LG compressor warranty guide walks through the settlement history too. The old settlement closed in February 2021, so it pays nothing today.

My compressor part is covered. Why is the quote still hundreds?

Because the warranty covers the part, and your quote is mostly labour. Fitting a compressor means refrigerant recovery, welding and recharging. Ask the pro to split the quote into part and labour lines. On a covered job, the part line should show as covered.

What About the Pro's Own Workmanship Terms?

The second layer belongs to the individual pro who does your repair. It is not a brand promise, and it is not set by this service.

Terms vary from pro to pro. One pro may cover the same fault returning within a stated period. Another may state narrower terms. Both can be fair, if stated plainly.

Ask before work starts, not after a fault returns. Ask what is covered, for how long, and whether a return visit is charged.

Then get the terms on the invoice. A written term can be honoured. A doorstep promise cannot be checked later.

The referral flow itself is explained in how the referral process works. You pay the pro for the repair, not this service.

This service does not set workmanship terms and does not promise outcomes on any pro's behalf. The terms you rely on are the ones the attending pro states and writes down.

How Does a Home Warranty Contract Fit In?

The third layer is a home warranty contract. It is a service contract you pay for yearly, plus a copay per claim.

The contract company takes your claim, then assigns a contractor from its own network. You do not choose the pro. Timing sits with the company, not with you.

Contracts also hold repair-or-replace decisions. A company may approve a repair cap, a part order, or a replacement credit under its own terms.

For a fridge full of food, that queue can be the real cost. The home warranty repair page covers when filing wins and when paying directly wins.

Read your contract's fridge clause before you need it. Coverage limits and exclusions differ widely between contracts.

Should I always file with my home warranty first?

Not always. A copay plus a long wait can cost more in lost food than a direct repair. File the claim to open the record, and protect the food in parallel. If the fridge holds little, or the fault is minor, the contract route may suit you fine.

Why Should You Keep the Paperwork?

Paperwork is the fuel every warranty layer runs on. Without it, even valid cover stalls.

Photograph the model and serial sticker inside the fridge wall today, before anything fails. Keep the purchase receipt or delivery record with that photo.

Keep every invoice, with part numbers and dates. Keep claim numbers, approval emails and the pro's written workmanship terms in the same folder.

When a fault returns, that folder shortens every argument. The brand can verify the part. The pro can verify the date. You can verify what was promised.

What Questions Should You Ask Any Shop?

Ask these questions of any shop, before any work starts. The answers separate careful pros from careless ones.

  • Is my part covered under the brand warranty?
  • What does your own workmanship term cover, and for how long?
  • Will the warranty terms be written on my invoice?
  • Who do I contact if the same fault returns?
  • What paperwork do you need from me today?

A pro who answers plainly is telling you how the job will run. A pro who waves the questions away is also telling you.

Coverage also changes the repair decision itself. A covered part can pull an older fridge back into repair territory. Run the figures on the repair vs replace page with the covered quote.

For the costs underneath all of this, keep the refrigerator repair cost ranges open while you compare quotes.

Frequently asked questions

Does a parts warranty mean the repair is free?

Usually the part only. LG's 10-year compressor warranty covers the compressor itself. Labour, refrigerant handling and call-out time stay with the owner in most cases. That is why a covered compressor job still produces a bill. Read the warranty terms for your exact model before assuming any figure is zero.

What workmanship cover does the pro offer?

Ask before the visit. Workmanship terms belong to each independent pro and vary from shop to shop. Ask what the term covers, how long it runs, and what happens if the same fault returns. Get the answer on the invoice, not in a verbal promise at the door.

What paperwork should I keep for a warranty claim?

Photograph the model and serial sticker inside the fridge wall. Keep the purchase receipt or delivery record. Keep every repair invoice, with part numbers. Keep warranty claim numbers and emails. That folder decides most disputes, and it speeds up any serial check a pro or brand runs for you.

How is a home warranty different from a brand warranty?

A home warranty is a service contract, not a brand warranty. You file a claim, pay a copay per claim, and the contract company assigns a contractor. Timing and repair-or-replace decisions sit with that company. The home warranty page explains how the dispatch queue really works.

Can a pro check my warranty before quoting?

Say so early, before diagnosis starts. A good pro checks coverage first, because a covered part changes the quote. Burleson Refrigerator Repair is an independent referral service, not affiliated with or endorsed by LG, Samsung or any other brand. Coverage is confirmed by the brand, never promised by this service.
